It’s been a college football season for the ages without a doubt. It all started way back when, with Appalachian State (a division II, or subdivision opponent) shocking Michigan in the Big House. The season rolled on and each and every week held upset after upset. Number 1 and 2 teams lost like it was going out of style, and it seemed like just about every team to be ranked at number 2 lost that very next week. Anybody who thinks they have a grasp on how these games are going to play out, is out of their mind. This season proved that college football experts are guessing on these games just like the rest of us.

For The ADD Show Bowl show down, we bring in resident college football expert and friend to the show, Jeff Young: student at the Ohio State University. Here’s Jeff and Aaron’s breakdown on the games from Dec. 20 until Dec. 31. The big time games will be posted at a later date.

San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl - 12/20 ESPN

     vs.    

Jeff  Navy’s Triple Option threat is too much for Utah to handle. Navy wins easily. 34-13

Aaron   Navy has the best running attack in the country. Their ability to rush the ball is too much, even for the Utes who have won 6 bowl games in a row. Navy wins. 38-21

R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl - 12/21 ESPN2

     vs.    

Jeff  FAU’s football program started 6 years ago. Memphis has won 5 of their last 6. I see that continuing. 24-10

Aaron These teams have virtually identical numbers on each side of the ball, while not a marquee match-up, this game should be pretty close and entertaining. Memphis eeks it out. 27-24.

Papajohns.com Bowl - 12/22 ESPN2

     vs.    

Jeff  The ‘Nati looks like a solid surprise team who gave West Virginia all they could handle. 37-24

Aaron  Cincinnati has played their toughest games with their best efforts this year, this should be somewhat of a lock win for the Bearcats. 35-14

New Mexico Bowl - 12/22 ESPN

     vs.    

Jeff  Can anyone say home game? 28-20

Aaron Nevada has averaged over 500 yards of offense per game and close to 37 points per game. They hung around with Hawaii too. 31-17

Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl - 12/22 ESPN

     vs.    

Jeff  Look for BYU to take advantage of a struggling UCLA program without a head coach. 17-7

Aaron  The Bruins lost to Notre Dame this year. Yikes. 21-10

Sheraton Hawaii Bowl - 12/23 ESPN

     vs.    

Jeff  Ian Johnson. ‘Nuff said. 28-10

Aaron  Don’t expect to see Coach Petersen to stay around Boise St. much longer, he’s a coach that made a nothing program into something special. 41-14

Motor City Bowl - 12/26 ESPN

     vs.    

Jeff  Another intriguing matchup. Central Michigan is basically playing a home game. I see them pleasing the home crowd in a close one. 24-20

Aaron  Central Michigan is the class of the MAC this year and has been for a few years now, Purdue showed nothing to be excited about. 34-24

Pacific Life Holiday Bowl - 12/27 ESPN

     vs.    

Jeff  Colt McCoy is overrated. Plus, Limas Sweed is out for the season. Arizona State easily handles the Longhorns. 41-17

Aaron  Even with a 9-3 mark, Texas has had a down year, plus with injuries and inconsistency with McCoy (18 INT’s), Arizona State should win this one. 41-24

Champs Sports Bowl - 12/28 ESPN

     vs.    

Jeff  Matt Ryan’s last collegiate game should be big against an inconsistent Spartan defense. 38-16

Aaron  My big 10 bias can’t even help the Spartans here, they’re just not a good enough team to match up against BC. Big day for Matt Ryan. 30-10

Texas Bowl - 12/28 NFL Network

     vs.    

Jeff  Once again, another team playing in their backyard. Houston in a close one. 21-17

Aaron  Houston’s offense is potent but their defense has a lot of wholes, and TCU could be able to pile on the yards via the running game. 31-28

Emerald Bowl - 12/28 ESPN

     vs.    

Jeff  The Terps have been inconsistent this year, but I see Head Coach Ralph Friedgen rallying his team for a close win over the Beavers. 24-17

Aaron  These two teams match up so closely when you look at the numbers, but give the Beavers the edge on the ground for sure, which will be the deciding factor. 17-13

Meineke Car Care Bowl - 12/29 ESPN

     vs.    

Jeff  UConn won two games this year by bad judgment calls by the officials. I can’t see the officials helping them for a third. 28-17

Aaron Once UConn got into the top 15 with a weak schedule, they showed why the Huskies are known for basketball, not football. Quite the weak finish, and a good opponent. Blowout. 44-7

AutoZone Liberty Bowl - 12/29 ESPN

     vs.    

Jeff  Sylvester Croom was a great story this year and has done a great job this year with the Bulldogs, but Kevin Smith, the leading rusher in D-1A football this year, should steal the show. 27-20

Aaron  I always find it really difficult to pick against college teams in Florida, and with Kevin Smith running all over the field, the Knights have a great shot. 28-21

Valero Alamo Bowl - 12/29 ESPN

     vs.    

Jeff  Anthony “Smelly†Morelli should be easily handled by a stout Aggie defense. 31-14

Aaron  Penn State didn’t win their big games this year and Morelli is going to graduate without beating OSU or Michigan. But this defense is just nasty. Maybe Morelli ends on a good note. 24-20

PetroSun Independence Bowl - 12/30 ESPN

     vs.    

Jeff  Can the $4 million man, Nick Saban, turn the season around for a mediocre team that looks good one week (beating Tennessee 41-17) and horrible the next (losing to Louisiana-Monroe at home 21-14). I see this “tragedy†turning to a celebration. 24-7

Aaron  The Colorado football program was in shambles just a few years ago and they’ve made quite the turn around. Plus, Nick Saban is a joke. 38-31

Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl - 12/31 ESPN

     vs.    

Jeff  Come on, Cal ended the season 6-6 with national title hopes in the preseason? Right…and Michigan lost to D1-AA Appalachian State. Oh wait… That DID happen. Come on Nate Longshore, prove me wrong. 28-10

Aaron  What a long, hard season for Nate Longshore and Cal. Ranked as high as 2, they stumbled into mediocrity. But I’ll always take them over a service academy football team, the difference in shear talent is remarkable.

Roady’s Humanitarian Bowl - 12/31 ESPN2

     vs.    

Jeff  I’m not sure why, but I just feel that Tech will rally after the firing of Chan Gailey. Look for Tech to squeak by. 35-34

Aaron  These teams are virtually identical in everything but their record (Bulldogs with 1 more win). Should be a close game, but Georgia Tech lost their coach, and they’ll lose this game. 37-31

Brut Sun Bowl - 12/31 CBS

     vs.    

Jeff  No one meant more to their team’s success than Dennis Dixon. Who is his replacement? Ryan Leaf’s brother? 28-13

Aaron  I’m still unsure as to why Dixon didn’t nominated for the Heisman. You can see when he went out how valuable he really was. Oregon is on a free fall. 38-13

Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl - 12/31 ESPN

     vs.    

Jeff   Andre Woodson is so deadly. 24-14

Aaron    A lot of people are projecting Woodson to be the first QB drafted next spring. Also let’s not forget the mammoth win against LSU this team had. Bowden hasn’t had his team ready to play for a few years now, and they look like they’re going to get rolled in this one. 49-21

Insight Bowl - 12/31 NFL Network

vs.

Jeff  Indiana is probably the best feel-good story of the year after Terry Hoeppner’s untimely death in the offseason. Indiana will “Play 13†but I think the Cowboys win on a last second field goal. 24-21

Aaron Indiana kept with the gameplan after a tragedy to begin the season. But OK St. is a balanced, good football team….I’M A MAN! I’M 40! Gotta love it. 28-14

Chick-fil-A Bowl - 12/31 ESPN

     vs.    

Jeff  This should be a defensive battle with whoever turns the ball losing the game. 13-6

Aaron Somewhat disappointing seasons for each program, but they play each other a lot, they don’t like each other, and they’ll be fired up to win. Each team is led by their strong defense. 20-7
